Prof. Richard Spontak of North Carolina State University visits CAEM

Invited by Prof. Liqun Zhang, Prof. Richard Spontak of North Carolina State University, US visited CAEM and gave a talk on “Thermoplastic Elastomer Networks: Formation and Incorporation of Midblock-Selective (Co) Solvents” on Aug-20-2013. Prof. Ming Tian, Assoc. Prof. Nanying Ning, and some graduate students of our center attended this academic conference, which was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Nanying Ning.

Prof. Richard Spontak got his Ph. D. degree at University of California at Berkeley in 1988, and now works in North Carolina State University. His research are focused on thermoplastic elastomers, electroactive polymers and shape memory polymers. He has published more than 300 SCI papers in kinds of journals such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials and some other top journals.

In this report, Prof. Richard Spontak introduced the composition of block copolymer, thermoplastic elastomer gels (TPEGs), its shape memory property and its application for structural materials. He put forward several new ideas on studying TPEGs. Lastly Prof. Richard Spontak discussed some interesting questions with the faculties and students.

After the report, Prof. Richard Spontak was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Nanying Ning to visit the labs of CAEM, and communicated with Prof. Liqun Zhang, Prof. Ming Tian, and Assoc. Prof. Nanying Ning.
